Winter Preschool Centers: Literacy

• 1. Winter write and wipe alphabet tracing cards

  To prepare the cards for use, print and then laminate them for durability. Cut the cards apart on the dashed lines. The cards can be kept together in a book-like format by making a hole in the top of each card with a hole punch and securing together with a key ring.
  Provide children with dry-erase (whiteboard) markers and encourage them to trace the letters on each card several times, following the directional arrows to ensure correct letter formation is learnt.

• 2. Hat and mitten beginning sounds match

  To prepare the cards for use, print and then laminate them for durability. Cut out each mitten and hat.
  The aim of this activity is for children to match the beginning sounds to the correct picture. Alternatively, children can match only the upper and lower case letters on each mitten.

• 3. Missing snowman letters

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. Print the snowmen letters and cut them out. Attach each snowman to the end of a clothes peg. Alternatively, you can write the letters using a permanent marker on the pegs, or stick on some alphabet stickers.
  The aim of this activity is for children to identify the missing letter and to clip the correct letter in the missing spot to complete the alphabet sequence.

• 4. Winter syllables

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. Provide children with some small winter-themed objects, such as bottle caps with snowflake stickers on top, snowmen buttons, clothes pegs with cotton balls glued on the end, etc.
  The aim of this activity is for children to identify the number of syllables in each picture and represent their findings by covering the corresponding number of snowflakes.

• 5. Snow globe CVC words

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. Provide children with some small winter-themed objects, such as snowmen buttons, clothes pegs with cotton balls glued on the end, etc.
  The aim of this activity is for children to read and identify the correct word for each picture and represent their findings by covering the corresponding word.

• 6. Snowflake rhymes

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart.
  The aim of this activity is for children to match the two pictures that rhyme.

• 7. Pre-primer snowball sight words

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart.
  The aim of this activity is for children to build the sight words on each card using the snowball letters tiles included.

• 8. Snowman color match

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. Glue colored pom poms to the end of several clothes pegs.   The aim of this activity is for children to clip the colored clothes pegs to the correct snowman card.

• 9. What is different? winter cards

  The aim of this activity is for children to clip a peg on the picture that is different.

• 10. What doesn’t belong? winter cards

• 11. Winter roll and cover (1-5 and 6-10)

  Print the picture mats and laminate them for durability. Print the cube pages and assemble each cube. Laminate the portion of the cube page that contains the colored circles and then cut them out.
  The aim of this activity is for children to roll the number cube and cover the corresponding number on each mat with the correct color to complete the picture.

• 12. Snowman sequencing cards

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart.
  The aim of this activity is for children to order the cards to show the sequence for building a snowman.

• 13. Size order: snowmen, snowflakes, mittens

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart.
  The aim of this activity is for children to order the cards by size.

• 14. Snowman shapes

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart.
  The aim of this activity is for children to match the snowman shapes together to build a complete snowman, including head, middle section, bottom section and hat.

  The aim of this activity is for children to count out the number of marshmallows indicated on each hot chocolate cup or mug.

• 17. Ten frame snowflake puzzle

  To prepare the activity for use, print and then laminate all the pages and cut out the puzzles.
  The aim of this activity is for children to match the numerals to the correct then frame.

• 18. Missing winter numbers

  To prepare the cards for use, print and laminate them, and then cut them apart. Print the number squares, laminate them, and then cut them out. Attach the numbers to the end of a clothes peg. Alternatively, you can write the numbers on the pegs using a permanent marker, or stick on some number stickers.
  The aim of this activity is for children to identify the missing number and to clip the correct number in the missing spot to complete the number sequence.

• 19. Snowman color patterns (AB/ABB/ABC)

  To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. Print the picture squares from the bottom of the page, laminate them and then cut them out. Attach the pictures to the end of a clothes peg.
  The aim of this activity is for children to identify the pattern on the cards and to clip the correct picture in the empty box to complete the pattern.
