Back to School Literacy Centers for Kindergarten | Morning Tubs / Bins

The Back to School Literacy Centers for Kindergarten includes a variety of games and activities designed for use in centers and small groups with children in Kindergarten at the start of the school year.

Each activity features a center label for your storage device and “I can” center instructions to help children remember their tasks. A recording page is included with each activity to document each child’s work.

Back to School Literacy Centers for Kindergarten Contents

1. Back to School Write & Wipe Alphabet
   • Print, laminate, and cut the cards. Children practice correct letter formation with a dry-erase marker. Keep the cards together using a key ring or pipe cleaner.
2. Apple Sorting: Upper and Lower Case Letters and Numbers
   • Print, laminate, and cut the pieces. Children sort apples into baskets to show upper and lower case letters and numbers. These cards can also be used for alphabetical and numerical order activities and letter matching.
3. Letter Match
   • Print, laminate, and cut the pages in half. Use Scrabble or magnetic letter tiles, or the included printable letter tiles. Children find matching letters, with options to match upper case letters or upper to lower case letters.
4. Alphabet Tree Upper and Lower Case Clip It!
   • Print, laminate, and cut the cards. Use household pegs or small clips. Children match upper case letters to lower case letters and record their answers on the provided sheet.
5. Beginning Sounds Match
   • Print, laminate, and cut the pages in half. Use letter tiles or dry-erase markers. Children find or write the beginning sound for each picture on their cards.
6. Back to School Beginning Sounds Clip It!
   • Print, laminate, and cut the picture and small letter cards. Attach letter circles to pegs. Children identify the beginning sound of each picture and clip a peg to show their answer or use dry-erase markers to color the correct sound.
7. Back to School Write the Room
   • Print, laminate, and cut the vocabulary cards. Place the cards around the room and provide children with a clipboard and recording page. Children find the picture cards and write the word next to the matching picture.
8. School Bus Word Family Sort
   • Print, laminate, and cut the sorting mats and word cards. Children identify the ending of each word and sort it to the correct word family mat.
9. Back to School Syllables Clip It!
   • Print, laminate, and cut the cards. Use household pegs or small clips. Children identify the number of syllables in each word.
10. Colored Pencils Pre-Primer & Primer Sight Word Sorting
    • Print, laminate, and cut the cards. Children sort sight word pencils into the correct cup using the included printable cups or real plastic cups.
