Explore how an apple tree grows with this apple life cycle sensory bin activity! Children search for picture cards, name each stage, and arrange them on a sequencing mat. This printable science activity combines sensory discovery with early sequencing, vocabulary, and fine motor practice.
The resource introduces six stages: seed, sprout, seedling, young tree, blossoms, and apples. A matching poster provides visual support as children learn the sequence and describe what happens next.

✏️ How to Use the Apple Life Cycle Sensory Bin Activity
Print the poster, picture cards, and sequencing mat. Cut out the six oval cards and laminate the materials for durability, if desired. Place the cards in a shallow sensory bin with a suitable filler, leaving some partly visible.
To use the apple life cycle sensory bin, children find a picture card, identify the stage, and place it in the correct space on the mat. They continue until all six stages are in order, then describe the sequence using words such as first, next, then, and last.
Keep the poster nearby for support. For an extra challenge, remove it and invite children to sequence and describe the stages independently. Optional child-safe tongs or tweezers provide additional fine motor practice.
🍎 More Ways to Play
- Apple Seed Investigation: Examine an apple cut open by an adult. Observe the seeds with a magnifying glass, match a seed to the seed card, and discuss what happens next.
- Which Stage Is Missing? Arrange the six cards in order, remove one while children close their eyes, and invite them to identify the missing stage.
- Act Out the Life Cycle: Choose a simple movement for each stage and act out the sequence from seed to apples.
