Summer Center Activities for Preschool | Morning Tubs / Bins

1. Watermelon fine motor practice mat

   Laminate the mat for durability and provide small objects like pom-poms, gems, or beans for children to place in the circles. This activity helps develop fine motor skills as children aim to fill up each circle.

2. Summer write and wipe alphabet tracing cards

   Laminate and cut the cards along the dashed lines for durability. Use a hole punch and key ring for easy organization. Children can practice tracing the letters with dry-erase markers, following the directional arrows for correct letter formation.

3. Shells beginning sounds match (26 pages)

   Laminate and cut out the pieces for a durable and engaging activity. Children can match the lowercase letter and beginning sound picture on the shells to the correct bucket with the matching uppercase letter. This activity promotes letter recognition and sound association.

4. Summer syllables (2 pages)

   Laminate and cut the cards apart. Use small pet-themed objects for children to represent the number of syllables in each picture. This interactive activity helps children develop phonological awareness.

5. Popsicle word family sort (2 pages)

   Simply print, laminate the cards for durability, and cut them out. The goal is for children to identify the pictures and place them in the correct word family.

6. Rhyming sunglasses (3 pages)

   Just print, laminate, and cut out the cards. The objective is for children to match two pictures that rhyme.

7. Pre-primer sight word sandwiches (44 words)

   Print, laminate, and cut apart the cards. The task is for children to make a “sandwich” by matching all the sight words.

1. Colored summer clothes for bears (11 pages)

   After printing and laminating the cards, students will sort the different colored clothes onto matching bears.

2. Summer and winter sorting (3 pages)

   Explore the change of seasons with the Summer and Winter Sorting activity. Print, laminate, and cut apart the cards. The goal is for students to sort pictures onto the correct season mat.

   Challenge students’ critical thinking skills with the What Doesn’t Belong? Summer Cards and Which Picture is Different? Summer Cards activities. Both tasks involve clipping a peg onto the picture that doesn’t belong or is different, respectively.

5. Summer shadow matching (2 pages)

   Print and laminate the pages, and cut out the cards. Students will match different pet cards to their corresponding shadow cards.

6. Life cycle of a honey bee 4-part sequencing cards (2 versions)

   Children will have the opportunity to practice their sequencing skills by putting together 4-part cards that show the different stages of a honey bee’s life. To get started, simply print, laminate for durability, and cut the cards apart.

7. Ice cream size sorting (small, medium, large)

   Children will have the chance to practice sorting by size as they place different ice cream scoops onto the correct cone. This activity also provides an opportunity to introduce size concepts such as small, medium, and large.

8. Ice cream number representations (1-10)

   Provide children with dry-erase (whiteboard) markers and encourage them to trace the number on each card several times, following the directional arrows to ensure correct number formation is learnt.

9. Shell shape sorting (18 pages)

   To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. The aim of this activity is for children to sort the 2D shell shapes to the correct bucket. This activity can also be used for sorting colors.

10. Watermelon seeds counting (1-10)

    Children will enjoy counting out the correct number of seeds as shown on each watermelon slice. For added fun, you can use the included seeds or let children use small buttons or pom-poms instead.

11. Summer patterns patterns (AB, AAB, ABB)

    To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate them for durability and then cut them apart. Attach the pictures cut out from the bottom of the page to the end of a clothes peg using a hot glue gun. The aim of this activity is for children to identify the pattern on the cards and to clip the correct picture in the empty box to complete the pattern.
