This digital download contains a collection of 14 Winter math activities intended for use in centers and small groups with children in Kindergarten (Prep) during the winter months.
Each activity includes a center label that can be printed and placed on the front of your storage device. Also included are “I can” center instructions to help children remember what to do. I have included a recording page at the end of each activity in order to have evidence of each child’s work.

 

Winter Math Centers for Kindergarten Contents:

  1. Winter Write & Wipe Numbers (1-20)

    To prepare the cards for use in a write and wipe center, print, laminate them, and then cut them apart. The intention of this activity is for children to practice correct number formation with a dry-erase marker. The cards can be kept in a book-like format by punching a hole in the top left corner and securing the cards together with a key ring or a pipe-cleaner.

  2. Winter count and clip cards (1-10)

    Print, laminate and cut out the picture cards. The aim of this activity is for children to count the objects on the cards and to clip a clothes peg on the correct number. Alternatively, children can use dry-erase markers to color the correct number.

  3. Which has More? Winter clip cards

    To set up, print, laminate and cut out the cards and use with household pegs. The aim is for children to count the number of items on each card and identify whether the group above or below the middle line contains the most items.

  4. Which has Less? Winter clip cards

    To set up, print, laminate and cut out the cards and use with household pegs. The aim is for children to count the number of items on each card and identify whether the group above or below the middle line contains the least number of items.

  5. Snowman Mittens Numbers Before & After

    To set up, print, laminate and cut out the big cards and the smaller number cards. The aim is for children to identify the number that comes before and after the number on the big cards.

  6. Winter number match

    To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate and cut out all the cards. The aim is for children to match the different number representations on the snowman body pieces to build a complete snowman.

  7. Winter missing numbers write & wipe

    To prepare this write and wipe activity, print, laminate and cut out all the cards. You may like to make a hole in the top left hand corner of each card and secure all the cards together with a key ring, pipe cleaner or ribbon. The aim is for children to identify the missing number on each card and write it using a dry-erase marker.

  8. Build a Winter pattern (AB/ABB/AAB/ABC)

    To prepare for use print and laminate all the pages. The aim of this activity is for children to build a pattern following the example from one of the cards. They then need to decide which picture goes in the empty square to complete the pattern.

  9. Winter count, tally and graph write & wipe

    To prepare this activity, print and laminate the cards. The aim is for children to count and represent their findings on the graph by colouring the appropriate number of squares with an erasable marker or crayon. They are also asked to represent their answers by drawing tally marks.

  10. Winter ten frame addition (to 20)

    To prepare the activity for use, print, laminate and cut out all the cards and answer pieces.
    The aim is for children to work out the addition equation on by placing differently colored tokens on the 10 frame mat provided.

  11. Winter odd and even number sorting

    Print and laminate all the pages and then cut the number cards apart. The aim is for children to sort the number cards to the correct mat to show whether the number is even or odd.

  12. Winter greater than, less than, equal to (numbers to 20)

    To prepare this activity for use, print and laminate all the cards and reindeer signs. The aim is for children to identify which number is greater, which is less or whether they are equal.

  13. Winter number puzzles (skip counting by 2s)

    Print, laminate and cut the puzzles into pieces, storing each puzzle in a separate bag. The aim is for children to arrange the puzzle pieces in numerical order to reveal the picture.

  14. Winter subtraction from 10 (ten frame)

    Print, laminate and cut out all the cards. Make a spinner with the snowman card by placing a pencil in the middle of a paper clip and spinning the paper clip with your finger.
    To play, children begin by placing ten tokens on the ten frame. Next, they spin the spinner and take away the number of tokens spun. They then record their answers.
