Choose a packing list card and place the school supply pieces in a sensory bin. Children find and count each type of school supply, then place the correct quantities on the backpack mat.
Begin with packing list cards using quantities of 1 and 2. Progress to larger quantities and introduce cards containing zero when children are ready to understand that zero means none.
The blank packing list cards can be laminated and used with dry-erase markers to create additional counting challenges.
