✏️ How to Use October Directed Drawing and Writing
Choose a drawing and a suitable page format. Students follow the six drawing steps, color their pictures, and then label or write about them. Dashed lines show the new parts to add at each step.
Encourage children to discuss their pictures and say their sentences aloud before writing. After writing, students can reread their sentences and check capital letters, spaces, and ending punctuation.
Pair the separate drawing guides with the reusable drawing and writing pages for larger pictures and additional writing space. Combine selected pages with the student cover to create an October Drawing and Writing Book.
Use these activities for:
- Whole-class directed drawing and writing lessons
- Small-group writing instruction
- October writing centers
- Morning work or early finisher activities once students know the routine
- Homeschool drawing and writing practice
🌱 October Directed Drawing and Writing: Differentiation
Students can explore the same drawing with different levels of writing support:
- Beginning Writers: Draw and label using the provided words.
- Developing Writers: Use the word bank and sentence starters to compose simple sentences.
- Independent Writers: Write their own sentences and add descriptive details using the pages without writing prompts.
Students do not need to complete every format for each drawing. Simply select the option that matches their current needs.
