- 6 data analysis worksheets for recording totals, identifying most and least, and comparing quantities.
- Teacher directions for preparing and using the activities.
The six themes are:
- Pumpkins in the Patch
- We Like Pumpkin…
- On the Farm
- Animals in the Farmyard
- How Fires Are Put Out
- At the Fire Station
✏️ How to Use the October Graphing Activities for Kindergarten
Children count each type of picture on their chosen card, record the quantity using tally marks, and color one graph square for each picture counted. They can then transfer their numbers and tallies to the matching recording sheet.
For an additional challenge, use the data analysis worksheet. Children read their completed graph to record totals, identify which category has the most or least, and work out the difference between two quantities.
🌈 Two Levels for Differentiation
- Quantities up to 5: introduce counting, tally marks, and simple bar graphs with smaller groups of pictures.
- Quantities up to 10: extend counting practice and give children experience recording larger quantities.
- Two follow-up options: choose the basic recording sheet or extend learning with graph interpretation questions.
Each theme appears at both counting levels, so children can work with the same topic while practicing at a suitable level.
🎯 Educational Benefits
- Counting with one-to-one correspondence
- Sorting and identifying picture categories
- Representing quantities with numerals and tally marks
- Creating and reading bar graphs
- Comparing quantities using most, least, and how many more
- Developing visual discrimination and pencil control
🖍️ October Graphing Activities for Kindergarten: Preparation and Classroom Tips
Print and laminate the color cards, or place them in reusable sleeves, for use with erasable markers. Print the black and white cards for children to complete with pencils and crayons.
Transparent counters can help children keep track of pictures as they count. Try using a different counter color for each category and matching those colors to the graph bars.
Use these activities during math centers, small group lessons, morning work, early finisher time, or homeschool math. Once children understand the routine, they can practice the same skills with a new picture theme.
These October graphing activities for kindergarten and first grade bring counting, tallying, and simple data analysis together in one easy-to-prepare seasonal resource.
