How to Use the Free Sight Word Play Dough Mats
Each mat follows a simple build, trace, and write sequence that combines sight word recognition with handwriting and fine motor practice.
Build the Word
First, children roll play dough into thin ropes. Next, they place the ropes along the large outline letters at the top of the mat.
Encourage children to follow the shape of each letter rather than filling the whole letter with play dough. Rolling, bending, and positioning the dough helps strengthen the small hand muscles needed for writing.
Trace the Word
Next, children trace the focus word in the middle section.
The tracing letters include:
