When I think of Christmas cookies, the first type of cookie that comes to mind is the gingerbread man cookie! Decorating gingerbread cookies was one of my favorite things to do as a child. I imagine many of your preschool and kindergarten students are also familiar with the ever lovable gingerbread man! For that reason, I put together a Gingerbread Preschool Worksheets and Activities packet. Of course, this packet doesn’t necessarily have to be used during Christmas as I have left out the traditional Christmas illustrations. You can use it during the winter season or when you read “The Gingerbread Man” story to your class. I have a Gingerbread Man Folk Tale unit if that’s something you’d like to also look at!

Here’s a closer look at the pages included in this packet!
Gingerbread: Literacy Worksheets
The first page in this packet is a name writing and letter recognition page. Children simply color all the gingerbread boys and girls that contain a letter within their names.
After that, there are several cutting practice pages. For the first worksheet, children simply cut up along the dashed lines. For the next two pages, children color a gingerbread boy and girl and then cut it out and paste it on another piece of paper.
Following, are a series of pre-writing practice pages and a tracing pages. For the pre-writing practice page, children trace the lines on the page, left to right. For the picture tracing pages, children simply trace over the dots on the page to complete the picture and then color it in.
After these worksheets, I have included several activities. First, there is a complete set of upper and lower case letter tracing pages. Children trace on the page and color the pictures. Next, children will match upper and lower case letters. After that, children will practice alphabet order by to write the missing letters. Last, children will work on beginning sounds by cutting and paste the pictures from the side of the page under the matching letters.
Children will then move on to some word work pages. First, there is a syllable worksheet that requires children to identify the number of syllables for each word. After that, children will work on rhyming words by drawing a line from one word to it rhyming match. Next, children will practice reading CVC words and then coloring the pictures that matches it. Last, in this section, children will practice recognizing sight words by using dot paints to color a mystery picture using the sight word code given.
Moving on, children will practice reading sight words in context with the cute little reader titled “Making Gingerer bread Men.” The reader is available for you to print in color and B&W. I have also included 2 differentiated comprehension sheets: one with pictures to indicate which page children can find the answer and another without pictures.
Gingerbread: Math Worksheets
First in the match section I have included a couple of visual discrimination pages. For the first one, children identify the picture that is different. For the second page, children identify the object that doesn’t belong.
Next, children will work on sorting gingerbread cookies and showing the sequence of making gingerbread men. They will then color a picture by following directions, after which they will work on AB patterns.
After that, there are several number focus pages. First are two number tracing pages from numbers 1-10. Then there are two number matching pages, also for numbers 1-10. Children also have the opportunity to develop number sense with a series of worksheets hat requires them to sort the different number representations (tally marks, ten frames). Then, children will work on number order by writing the number missing from the sequence.
Children will continue to work on number order with two cut and paste worksheets.
Next up is a more challenging set of worksheets that require children to “count and graph.” Children Children count each set of pictures and represent their findings on the graph by coloring the corresponding number of squares. Afterwards, children will work on prepositions by circling the word that shows where the gingerbread man’s position.
I have also included some measurement order worksheets. The first is for ordering objects by weight and the second requires children to order the gingerbread people by size.
The last two worksheets in this packet focus on 2D shape recognition and the 5 Senses.
